Complementary feed for horses

Safely supplied with highly effective, organic zinc and selenium.

Application

EQUIPUR - zink contains highly effective, organic zinc and selenium. These cell-protecting trace elements are crucial for a strong immune system and an active metabolism as well as being essential for intact skin and strong hooves. As the natural zinc and selenium content in hay and concentrated feed is constantly decreasing, a safe and sufficient supply of these vital substances is particularly important for keeping horses healthy.

General findings of nutritional science

As the natural zinc and selenium content on many pastures and in hay and concentrated feed continues to decline, a reliable and sufficient supply of these vital substances is particularly important for keeping horses healthy.

Zinc plays a key role in the smooth functioning and regeneration of the skin, hair, hooves and the mucous membranes in the gastrointestinal tract and lungs. Zinc is also particularly important for the rapid detoxification and excretion of metabolic waste products in the liver.

Flaxseed and brewer's yeast support the effect of zinc on the skin and liver with their unsaturated fatty acids and natural B vitamins.

Wheat bran and apple pomace have beneficial dietary properties due to their high crude fiber content, which particularly promotes the smooth and even flow of digestive processes.

Selenium plays an important role in the immune system and in general health care. However, it is crucial for the function and performance of the heart and skeletal muscles.

Parsley has a high vitamin C content and thus promotes the effect of selenium in the immune system.

INFOBOX

Zinc deficiency in horses

The trace element zinc plays a central role in the enzymatic metabolism of horses. If zinc is lacking, a number of processes in the horse's organism are impaired. In addition to the carbohydrate and protein metabolism, zinc has a particularly positive effect on detoxification, hoof and coat growth and the horse's immune system. Feeding-related digestive disorders lead to zinc losses. Other food ingredients that are administered in excess, such as calcium, copper, iron, heavy metals, phytic acid (cereals and legumes), tannins (vegetable tannins) and others can inhibit zinc absorption. Chronic skin eczema (e.g. sweet itch, mauke) or a compromised immune system increase the need for zinc in horses.

Zinc requirements in horses

The available hay and pasture analyses show that the levels in the basic feed have fallen in recent years. The daily zinc requirement of a horse with 500 kg live weight is ideally 500 mg zinc. Today, only 50 % to 70 % is often reliably provided via the basic feed. This is a major reason why more and more attention should be paid to the supply of zinc (ideally using organically bound zinc) via a supplementary feed. It reliably compensates for zinc losses or deficits.
