General findings of nutritional science
During the tournament season in particular, effective protection of muscles and joints and strengthening of the immune system are important in order to maintain the horse's health and performance even under high stress or during short recovery phases. While active cell protection in healthy horses leads to higher performance, improved rideability, and improved conditioning, it also promotes recovery after illness and improves the chances of healing.
Antioxidants, which include vitamins C and E, provitamin beta-carotene, and selenium, protect muscle and connective tissue cells from damage during strenuous exercise. They support oxygen supply to the cells, ensure energy production, and thus ensure an efficient musculoskeletal system. They also strengthen the immune system in the long term and are therefore extremely important and effective protective substances for the body against pathogens such as viruses and bacteria.
Zinc has a decisive influence on the speed at which cells can regenerate after stress.
Essential amino acids such as lysine and methionine promote muscle growth and maintenance and strengthen the connective tissue fibers of tendons and ligaments.
INFOBOX
Strengthen your horse's immune system
A multitude of different influences (environment, toxins, stress, bacteria, viruses and fungi) challenge the horse's immune functions on a daily basis. A functioning immune system protects our horses from illness. The immune system is made up of different organs, tissues, cells and molecules and a sufficient defense performance requires an undisturbed networking of these individual parameters. An optimal supply of nutrients and vital substances is important for this to work. In addition to the trace elements zinc and selenium, the cell protection vitamins vitamin E, C and beta-carotene are effective micronutrients for protection against pathogenic germs and viruses. Horses in poor health, horses in competition or after a change of stable and stressed horses in particular have an increased need for so-called antioxidants, which should be supplied in sufficient quantities through their feed.
