INFOBOX
The right herbs for a skittish horse
Horses are fleeing animals and often react to external influences with massive frightfulness or panicky behavior. This is triggered by so-called stress hormones, which were essential for the survival of horses in the wild. These hormones provide a large amount of energy in a very short time, which is needed to take flight. Even today, horses in our care have not completely shed this behavior and show a panicky overreaction in various situations. Today we know that various herbs can reduce this sensitivity to panic or stress-inducing factors. In horses, these are the harmonizing active ingredients from hops, valerian and passionflower. These plant substances interact with the nerve cells and produce a relaxing and anticonvulsant effect. In combination with lemon balm and camomile, the calming effect of the herbs on horses can be optimized.
