Which herbs for lame horses?
The causes of lameness in horses are often difficult for a non-professional to identify and first require a precise diagnosis. A vet is called in to carry out a thorough examination to determine the cause. Acute injuries caused by external influences (nail kicks, bullet wounds, cuts) will heal very quickly with appropriate wound care and antibiotics and restore the horse's mobility within a few days. Other injuries or joint degenerations such as torn tendons or ligaments, torn or strained muscles and arthrosis, on the other hand, are protracted and often painful. It often takes months before horses can walk again without lameness. Herbs can support the healing process and reduce both pain and inflammation. The active ingredients from devil's claw and willow bark have been used successfully for many years. Other herbs also contain other active ingredients that promote blood circulation, detoxify or stimulate the metabolism, which are important for the regeneration of joints and collagenous connective tissue. The positive properties of stinging nettle, rosehip and frankincense should be emphasized here.
