General findings of nutritional science
Especially in the summer months, the well-being and health of horses can be severely affected by insects (black flies, horse flies, horse flies). Therefore, special emphasis should be placed on repelling insects and increasing the body's natural resistance to allergic reactions in susceptible horses (especially those with summer eczema).
Garlic promotes the resistance of the entire organism. The vaporization of essential garlic oils and anti-allergic ingredients through the skin is extremely effective in reducing the annoyance of stinging insects to horses.
Wild garlic also contains essential oils and enhances the insect-repellent effect of garlic.
Herbs relieve the skin by stimulating the detoxifying and blood-purifying function of the liver and kidneys
Linseed has a positive effect on digestion and skin metabolism.
B vitamins potentiate the insect-repellent effect of essential oils in high doses.
INFOBOX
How good is garlic at repelling insects for horses?
As a rule, appropriate fly sprays (repellents) are used to repel mosquitoes, flies and horseflies in summer before a ride. However, horses do not only have to deal with these annoying insects during a ride. Most of the time in summer, the animals are out in the pasture. There they are also plagued by insects. Studies have shown that horses fed with garlic are much less bothered by insects. Even small, regularly fed daily doses of garlic offer protection here, but garlic can do much more as a medicinal plant. It promotes healthy digestion, provides high-quality plant substances to regulate the blood count and strengthens the horse's immune system and willingness to perform.
