Complementary feed for horses

Important fertility and embryo protection vitamins for brood mares and stallions.

Application

EQUIPUR - carotin provides broodmares and stallions with a complete supply of vitamins A and E, which promote fertility and protect embryos, as well as beta-carotene. A deficiency in these vitamins can lead to silent estrus, delayed ovulation, low fertilization rates, embryo loss, poor mating behavior, and poor sperm quality.

Instructions for proper use

Brood mares and stallions: 50 g per day
given with the feed.
Due to the increased content of trace elements daily ration should not be more than doubled.

Feeding period

For maximum effectiveness, application should begin 6 to 8 weeks prior to serving for brood mares, and should be continued during the first 2 to 4 weeks of pregnancy. For stallions, feeding should also begin 6 to 8 weeks prior to the first serving and should be continued for the whole of the breeding season.

General findings of nutritional science

The coordinated combination of beta-carotene and vitamins A and E has a particular effect on silent heat, delayed ovulation, low conception (fertilization) rates, poor mating behavior, poor sperm quality, irregular growth, and rearing problems in suckling foals.

Beta-Carotene is a provitamin necessary for reproduction, which is almost completely destroyed by prolonged storage of feed.

In mares, beta-carotene stimulates hormone synthesis in the ovaries, promoting a regular cycle and good estrus. Following fertilization, beta-carotene activates the synthesis of the pregnancy hormone progesterone, which significantly increases the survival rate of the embryo.

In stallions, a lack of beta-carotene leads to regression of the testicular tissue, which severely impairs the development of sperm cells and the synthesis of the male sex hormone testosterone. The consequences are poor mating behavior and poor sperm quality.

Vitamin A is important for stimulating the synthesis of reproductive hormones and for protecting the uterine lining.

Vitamin E is a fertility vitamin that prevents sterility in the gonads of stallions and mares. As an antioxidant, it protects vitamin A and beta-carotene from destruction.

INFOBOX

Vitamin A or beta-carotene in horses

As a so-called fat-soluble vitamin, it plays a central role in horses' vision, reproduction and fertility, the maintenance of the function of the mucous membranes and bone metabolism. Since pure vitamin A is not found in plant-based foods, it is initially absorbed via natural beta-carotene, the precursor to the vitamin. It is then converted into vitamin A in the small intestine.

Vitamin A deficiency in horses

Breeding horses have an increased need for vitamin A. Horses kept exclusively on pastures are supplied with the precursors of vitamin A via the pasture grass. In hay, the initial content drops rapidly with the length of storage. Feeding hay continuously in winter or all year round or predominantly in the summer months can lead to a significant vitamin A deficiency in the horse. In addition to clouding of the cornea (night blindness) and skin and mucous membrane problems, there is an increased risk of mucous membranes drying out within the breeding mare's placenta. The consequences are general abortions and underdeveloped fetuses.
