Instructions for proper use
Foals, young horses and ponies: 5 g per day
horses (500 kg): 10 g per day
given with the feed.
Due to the increased content of trace elements daily ration should not be more than doubled.
Feeding period
To support the regeneration of hooves and skin, feeding should continue for up to 8 weeks. To achieve a lasting improvement in horn quality, feeding may need to be continued for 6 to 9 months.
General findings of nutritional science
The interaction of the active ingredients biotin, vitamin B6, organic sulfur compounds, copper, and zinc optimizes the regenerative capacity of skin cells, thereby increasing the skin's suppleness and resistance. At the same time, the hair is strengthened and protected by improving its internal structure. The increase in horn quality gives the hoof strength and elasticity.
Biotin is a biological growth substance that plays a key role in maintaining the health, resilience, and elasticity of the hoof horn. It strengthens the structure of the hoof horn and thus prevents cracks in the hoof wall, brittle hoof edges, overly soft frogs, and low heels. Biotin improves the connection between the horn layer and the underlying dermis, which counteracts the development of a loose or hollow wall.
As biologically active sulfur compounds, methionine and MSM have a significant influence on the condition of the skin, hair, and hoof horn.
Vitamin B6 is a component of enzymes involved in protein metabolism. A deficiency of this vitamin causes the skin to react with itching and inflammatory skin changes.
Zinc is essential for the smooth functioning, regeneration, and wound healing of the skin. A deficiency leads to rough and flaky skin, thickening of the skin, hair loss, and changes to the hoof horn..
Copper is essential for regular skin pigmentation and the formation of subcutaneous connective tissue.
INFOBOX
Bad hooves on horses
Healthy and stable hooves are an important prerequisite for the horse's mobility and resilience. In addition to long-term drought or poor soil conditions (mud, germ-contaminated litter, ammonia, etc.), it is particularly the lack of vital substances in feeding that influences impaired hoof growth. The hooves often break out, horseshoes no longer have any grip and the horses become lame or have to be spared until sufficient new hoof horn has formed. Since the new formation of stable hoof horn must first grow downwards from the coronet, this process takes several months. In order to accelerate this process or to guarantee the formation of new, firm and resistant horn structures, the horse must be provided with appropriate horn-forming active ingredients. The nutrients biotin, sulfur-containing amino acids (methionine), zinc and copper offer crucial support here.
Biotin requirement in horses
The normal biotin requirement for a horse (600 kg) is 600 mcg daily. Approximately 20,000 mcg of biotin per day should be sufficient to improve the quality of the poor hoof horn. After the horse's hooves only grow a few millimeters per week, it is advisable to increase their intake over 6 to 9 months.
