Dietetic Complementary feed for horses
The optimum nutritional supply for hoof-horn, skin and coat.
Application
EQUIPUR - biotin plus tabs provide an optimal supply for hoof, skin and coat of the horse with highly dosed biotin (vitamin H), zinc, copper, and sulphur. Only the regular and sufficient supply of this active substance combination enables optimum growth. EQUIPUR-biotin plus tabs can also be given without concentrated feed like a treat (e.g. to pasture horses); the tablet form guarantees the safe intake of all its nutritive agents.

Instructions for proper use
Horses (~ 500 kg): 5 tablets per day
Young horses, ponies (+/- 300 kg): 3 tablets per day
Foals(+/- 100 kg): 1 tablet per day
1 tablet ~ 0,8 g.
Due to the increased content of trace elements daily ration should not be more than doubled.
Feeding period
For maximum effectiveness, initial application should be in the form of a treatment lasting at least 8 weeks. Further feeding for a longer duration, or a three-month treatment twice yearly, or a year-round treatment does not pose any problems and will be beneficial.
General findings of nutritional science
By the interaction of the active agent components biotin and vitamin B6, the organic sulphur compounds as well as copper and zinc, the ability for regeneration of the skin‘s cells will be optimized and thus the skin‘s smoothness and power of resistance increased. At the same time the hair is strengthened and protected by improvement of its inner structure. Maximizing the horn‘s quality endows the hoof with strength and elasticity.
Biotin is a biological growth-agent which is of crucial importance for the health, capacity and elasticity of the hoof-horn. It strengthens its structure and prevents cracks in the hoof‘s wall, in brittle hoof-edges, in the spongy frog, and in the lower heel of the hoof. Biotin improves the connection between the horn-layer and the corium beneath, by which the formation of a loose or hollow wall is counteracted.
As biologically active sulphur compounds, methionine and MSM have a significant influence on the condition of the skin, hair and hoof horn.
Vitamin B6 is a component of enzymes of the protein metabolism; the skin responds to their deficiency with itching and inflammatory skin disorders.
Zinc is indispensable for the smooth function, the regeneration and the healing of skin wounds.
Copper is indispensable for the regular pigmentation of the skin as well as for the formation of subcutaneous connective tissue.
INFOBOX
Bad hooves on horses
Healthy and stable hooves are an important prerequisite for the horse's mobility and resilience. In addition to long-term drought or poor soil conditions (mud, germ-contaminated litter, ammonia, etc.), it is particularly the lack of vital substances in feeding that influences impaired hoof growth. The hooves often break out, horseshoes no longer have any grip and the horses become lame or have to be spared until sufficient new hoof horn has formed. Since the new formation of stable hoof horn must first grow downwards from the coronet, this process takes several months. In order to accelerate this process or to guarantee the formation of new, firm and resistant horn structures, the horse must be provided with appropriate horn-forming active ingredients. The nutrients biotin, sulfur-containing amino acids (methionine), zinc and copper offer crucial support here.
Biotin requirement in horses
The normal biotin requirement for a horse (600 kg) is 600 mcg daily. Approximately 20,000 mcg of biotin per day should be sufficient to improve the quality of the poor hoof horn. After the horse's hooves only grow a few millimeters per week, it is advisable to increase their intake over 6 to 9 months.
