INFOBOX
Calcium requirements in dogs
Calcium, phosphorus and vitamin D3 are essential for bone metabolism in dogs. Dogs need almost 10 to 15 grams of calcium and half as much phosphorus per kilogram of body weight. 90 - 95% of this is found in the animal's bones (phosphorus 80%). The minerals stored there are released into the body as required with the involvement of the kidneys and intestines. If the dog receives too little calcium through its diet, the losses can be compensated for. However, if this condition persists, demineralization of the bones is the result. This massively increases the risk of brittle or fragile bones.
In the wild, dogs obtain most of their nutritional requirements from the bones of their hunted prey. But only the correct interaction of calcium, phosphorus, vitamin D3 and magnesium ensures a functioning calcium metabolism. A one-sided diet (calcium) is therefore less efficient. With a supplement such as CANIPUR - calcigel, all nutrients involved in bone metabolism are provided in the correct ratio and reliably supplied to dogs, especially in times of increased demand (pregnancy, lactation, growth).

Instructions for proper use
Small dogs (4-15 kg): 5-20 g per day
Medium dogs (16-39 kg): 20-40 g per day
Large dogs (40-80 kg): 40-80 g per day
given with the feed.
Due to the increased content of vitamin D3 daily ration should not be more than doubled.
Feeding period
For maximum effectiveness, the product should be applied over at least 3 weeks. Feeding for a longer period or the whole year round does not pose any problems and will be beneficial.
General findings of nutritional science
Calcium is essential for the development, resilience and strength of bones and teeth. In the event of a deficiency due to an undersupply or increased demand such as growth, pregnancy, lactation and heavy physical exertion, stiffness and minor lameness are the main initial symptoms. If the undersupply of calcium persists for a longer period of time, this can be followed by bone fractures and inflammation, joint changes and even bone fractures. Particularly in growing dogs, a calcium deficiency leads to irreparable deformation of the limbs. Calcium also plays a decisive role in blood clotting and wound healing, muscle activity, heart function and the stabilization of nerve cells. It is therefore important to keep the calcium level in the blood as constant as possible through a regular supply of quickly and safely absorbable calcium. This requirement is met above all by calcium in chelated form.
Gelatine is a pure protein product and corresponds to collagen in terms of its amino acid composition. As a scaffold protein in joint cartilage, connective tissue and tendons, it is responsible for their resilience, mobility and stability. The high lysine content of gelatine promotes the development and metabolism of the muscles.
In addition to calcium, dicalcium phosphate primarily provides phosphorus, which, along with vitamin D3, is calcium's most important ally in strengthening the bone structure.
Vitamin D3 regulates calcium and phosphorus metabolism and promotes the incorporation of the minerals into the bone structure. If there is a deficiency, the calcium present cannot be used appropriately.
Dextrose is an energy-rich carrier that serves to compensate for any deficits in the energy balance.
