Application

EQUIPUR - ferrochel effectively remedies iron deficiency and supplies the organism with active substances. It is especially necessary for sport horses, foals and brood-mares for the activation of blood-formation as well as for the protection of blood vessels in the lungs during peak performances. Thus variations in the physiological performance capacity can be balanced and nutritional health disorders optimally prevented.

Horses (500 kg): 50 g per day
Weanlings, young horses and ponies: 30 g per day
Foals (31. to 120. day): 20 g per day
Foals (7. to 30. day): 10 g per day
given with the feed.

Due to the increased content of trace elements daily ration should not be more than doubled.

Feeding period

For maximum effectiveness, initial application should be in the form of a treatment lasting at least four weeks. Subsequent feeding for a longer period or every other day year-round should not pose any problems and is beneficial. The dosages for foals and young horses refer to medium-sized breeds (adult horse 500 kg) and should be adjusted as appropriate.

General findings of nutritional science

Iron is indispensable for the formation of red blood- and muscle-pigment substances (haemoglobin and myoglobin). Haemoglobin functions in the red blood cells for the oxygen transfer from the lung into all tissues; in the muscle cells myoglobin takes over the oxygen and makes it available for exercising the muscles. In case of iron deficiency, this oxygen support is no longer guaranteed. Consequences are problems with rideability, weakness in performance and fatigue. Later on it might result in damage of the heart, the lung and the musculature.

Silicon, methionine and vitamin C provide for strong and elastic vascular walls. This is important for the performance capacity of the horse because with high physical strain the bloodpressure in the lung capillaries could rise up to 300 mm Hg. With untrained horses or with predamaged vessels, e.g. by infections, this often leads to a burst of capillaries (lung bleeding).

Vitamin C, E, selenium and zinc as well as procyanidins made of husks of pressed grapes, offer a special protection against inflammation and infection of the lung capillaries and promote the healing of damaged vessels.

Copper supports iron in haemoglobin synthesis. A deficiency increases the danger of vascular rupture (lung bleeding).

Vitamin K3 is an essential building block in blood coagulation and, like copper, protects from damage the vessels of the lung after much strain.

Vitamin B12 and cobalt promote blood formation.

Folic acid is essentially involved in forming and maturing red and white blood corpuscles.
